AA Thought for the Day

Life on Life's Terms

As we go through the day we pause, when agitated or doubtful,
and ask for the right thought or action.
We constantly remind ourselves we are no longer running the show,
humbly saying to ourselves many times each day "Thy will be done."

Hello, my name is Joe and I am an alcoholic.

When we are thrown a curve ball, instead of drinking, instead of negative thinking, we try to do the next right thing. Our old ways would have made the situation worse. In AA, we have found a way to handle problems. Some of us are thrown some pretty nasty curve balls, like death, divorce, and the like. We do not have to drink. We do not have to react like the drunken fools we once were. We can pray and ask our Higher Power for guidance today. We think about others instead of just ourselves. We do not have to battle. We can react with peace and kindness, keeping our emotions dialed in. I have been going through a few tough times lately, and some wonderful times, too. I have used what I have learned from all of you; to try to steer a steady course, to remain calm, to be happy, to think with a clear head (like a childhood friend always used to say), and to talk with my Higher Power. Thank you for letting me share.
